Anointing of the Sick

The Anointing of the Sick is a healing sacrament that is for all those who are facing major surgery, chronic illness, death, or the weakness that comes with age. Celebration of this sacrament is also offered once a year (in the Fall) during Mass. 

If you are seriously or chronically ill, or will be having a serious surgery, you are a candidate to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. Those who are advanced in age even without a noticeable decline in heath may be anointed as well. Please call the parish office well in advance of a surgery you will be having to schedule a time to be anointed. You will be offered the opportunity to go to confession as well.

Why receive Anointing of the Sick? It raises up and strengthens the soul of a sick person, so they may more easily bear the trials and hardships of sickness.

Who may receive it? Catholics whose health is seriously impaired by sickness or old age and before major surgery when the cause is a serious illness.
 
May it be repeated? Yes, for a relapse of an illness, for the elderly and people with serious chronic illness.
 
Summon a priest who will pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.  The prayer of faith will save the sick person, and their sins are forgiven. (James 5:15)
